Speaking on Mascots & Human Rights March 2019

I recently spoke about the Human Rights Implications of Native Mascots at the Center For Sociocultural Sport and Olympic Research Conference California State University at Fullerton in March 2019. It was a great experience not because I presented brilliantly, I did not, but I got to formulate my ideas about what I have learned in my fight against Native Mascots.

I began the process of fighting Indigenous mascots by asking a simple question about the government’s right to enable discriminatory sports organizations through display space and financial subsidies. I ended my process questioning the nature of justice in Canada and North America.

Getting ready to share my experience with those who would listen. We have to remember that our country is what we make of it as much as we are what our country makes of us.
