Going Green to Save Green

With support from Cando, (Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers), Beyond Green has redesigned its website to create three websites focused on Sustainability and Equity. The first is the maintenance of the legacy BeyondGreenConsulting.com website which will direct users to two new course websites

The primary focus of GoingGreentoSaveGreen.com is the Going Green to Save Green energy efficiency course that helps people develop their financial analysis skills on energy efficiency. By teaching the Math of Conservation, Beyond Green hopes, that students from those in Grades 7 – 12 to non-technical economic development officers to members of the general public can become more comfortable with evaluating energy efficiency savings opportunities. If people have a firm understanding of the financial benefits of going green then they would be more likely to act to live more sustainably.

Additionally, the video lessons that make up the course must be updated. Beyond Green’s owner used his teenage children as co-hosts to make the series more relatable for school-aged students. The video series needs to be updated, Beyond Green hopes to get new Indigenous teen co-hosts to allow Indigenous children to see themselves as participating in the curriculum and to encourage more Indigenous children to enter STEAM careers.

To participate, future cohosts must take and pass the course, and work with Beyond Green to virtually submit video segments that will be included in a video’s revision. I want many new co-hosts to represent as many regions and nations as possible to make Indigenous children feel accepted in their academic environments.

Inclusion and Equity are the focus of the second course featured on the BeyondGreenProductions.com website. The Systemic Injustice Course follows segments of Beyond Green’s documentary Systemic Injustice which examines Beyond Green’s own Brad Gallant’s fight against Indigenous mascots and the Canadian culture of Indigenous racism that he encountered. The removal of mascots creates more inclusive environments for Indigenous people and the process of forcing the removal demands equality for Indigenous culture in society. Check out the course.
